The following is a poem presented at Livingway’s Christmas dinner as written by Miriam Buckaway

CHRISTMAS

When I was just a little girl of five or six or so

My mother told a story of a babe born long ago

This babe she said was a Holy Child

Born of a virgin so tender and mild

It was about our very first Christmas

As I remember it went like this

Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem late in the day

The Inns were all filled there was nowhere to stay

They entered a stable because they were told

No other shelter could they find from the cold

A baby was born in the stable that night

Townfolk slept thru the heavenly night

An angel choir heralded his birth

Singing praises to God and peace to the earth

Shepherds tending their sheep were shaken with fear

When in their midst an angel appeared

Proclaiming unto you this day a Saviour is given

He is the king of all earth and of heaven

You will find him lying in a manger in the town of Bethlehem

Shepherds came seeking him as the angel foretold

Wisemen brought gifts of Myrr, Frankincense and Gold

Each year we buy gifts for our family and friends

We hurry and scurry go to trouble no end

There are presents to buy, a turkey to stuff

Phone calls to make, invitations to send

The baby born in a stable who in a manger lay

Has long been forgotten in the world to-day

We forget about the angel choir singing

Peace on earth good will to men

About the angel proclaiming the promise had been given

Let us not forget that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday

Let us worship Him on this day

For if Jesus had not been born there would be no reason

To celebrate a Christmas season

I remember my mom saying, remember my dear little doll

Our present to Jesus comes first of all

I bow my head and offer to give

My heart to Lord Jesus for as long as I live

I pray my gift He-ll be pleased to receive

And on this His birthday, you too will believe.
